Internship Program

The Garden State Initiative is a nonprofit policy think tank located in Morristown, NJ with a mission to strengthen New Jersey by providing policy solutions in the state through the promotion of new investment, job growth, the creation of economic opportunities, and innovation to the benefit of all New Jerseyans.

Our Summer 2024 Internship Program will offer the opportunity for hands-on experience and research on issues facing New Jersey today including: energy, tax reform, budget policy and other pro-business initiatives.  Applicants must be hard-working, have strong writing and communication skills, and have a demonstrated interest in public policy. While applicants from all backgrounds will be considered, students from New Jersey are strongly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities:

The Garden State Initiative seeks interns to assist with policy research, social media, communications, writing of op-eds and blogs and data-based policy recommendations. Additional tasks may include management of office data/contact lists and other correspondence as needed. Applicants must be able to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously and have an understanding of- or an interest in learning about- state and local government. The ideal candidate is proactive, interested in current events, possesses an attention to detail, and the ability to work as a team player.

Qualifications for Ideal Candidates:

  • Strong writing, communications, and/or graphic design skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Google products, and social media platforms
  • Ability to work well with others and follow through on projects to completion
  • Strong analytical skills, self-motivated and reliability
  • Experience or interest in public service and making a difference through local and state government
  • Interest in research, writing and collaboration
