PODCAST: The Road to Equitable Transportation Policy in New Jersey

In this episode of The GSI Briefing, Regina Egea is joined by Dr. Jonathan Peters, who along with his colleagues, Drs. Cameron Gordon and Rich Flanagan, take an extraordinary look at transportation issues throughout New Jersey in GSI’s new report: “The Road to Equitable Transportation Policy in New Jersey: An Assessment of Cost Burdens, Gaps in Mobility and Recommendations for Reform”
Their report, which will certainly raise some eyebrows across the state, highlights important issues for anyone who drives or relies on public transportation in our state.
The report also touches upon the emergence of electric vehicles and whether or not New Jersey’s infrastructure will be able to meet the goals set out in our state’s clean energy plan.
In sum, the report sheds light on the reality that New Jersey is something of a tale of two – or three or more – states when it comes to transportation.

Dr. Jonathan Peters is a professor at the College of Staten Island, a part of The City University of New York. He focuses on finance and data analytics in the Accounting and Finance Department in the Lucille and Jay Chazanoff School of Business, as well as and is a Research Fellow at The University Transportation Research Center.
Dr. Peters conducts research in the areas of geospatial analysis, historic trails and roads, regional planning, road and mass transit financing, corporate and public sector performance metrics, social justice, capital costs and performance management.
Frequently quoted in the media on transportation topics, Dr. Peters has recently published in Transportation Research, the Journal of Public Transportation and the Transportation Research Record of the National Academy of Sciences.
